Print round labels for mason jar lids — perfect for canning, jam, and homemade gifts. Why? →
Free Mason Jar Lid Label Maker is a browser-based tool for printing round labels that fit standard and wide-mouth mason jar lids. Type your jam flavors, salsa varieties, dates, or batch numbers and print 24 round labels per US Letter sheet by default. Sized to fit the metal lid insert of regular Ball/Kerr jars (2.5" round). For wide-mouth jars (3.5"), reduce the column count to 3. Works with Avery round labels, full-sheet sticker paper, or kraft sticker paper for a homemade-gift aesthetic. Your data stays in your browser.
Regular mouth Ball/Kerr lids take a 2.5" round label — the inset of the metal lid is exactly that size. Wide-mouth jars take a 3.5" round label. The default preset (4 columns × 6 rows on US Letter) gives you regular-mouth-sized labels. For wide-mouth, drop to 3 columns × 4 rows.
Not with a home printer — canning lids are coated metal and won't accept inkjet or laser ink. Stickers are the standard method. For dishwasher-safe permanence, use vinyl sticker paper plus a self-adhesive laminate sheet. The metal lid itself is single-use after canning anyway, so most home canners use kraft labels for charm and don't worry about durability beyond the gift recipient.
Apply labels after canning, not before. The boiling water and steam will destroy paper labels and warp vinyl. Once jars are sealed and fully cooled (12+ hours), the lids are dry and ready for labels. Wipe each lid with rubbing alcohol first to remove any oil, and the sticker will adhere cleanly for a year or more.
For everyday gifts: kraft sticker paper looks beautifully rustic and matches the homemade aesthetic. For wet environments (pickles, ferments stored in the fridge): vinyl sticker paper is essential — paper labels will peel when condensation builds. For long pantry storage: matte sticker paper plus a date written in pencil holds up for 1–2 years.
Yes — for canned goods, include the contents and the month/year you canned. Most home-canned foods are best within 12 months. Type entries like Strawberry Jam · Aug 2024 and the auto-fit will scale text to fit. For batch-tracking large canning sessions, use a separate small batch number sticker on the side of the jar.
Yes — leave a blank space in your label name (e.g., Jam — _____) and fill in the date or specific flavor by hand with a fine-tip permanent marker. This is the canning trick: print a generic label sheet once, hand-write the specifics each time you can. Saves dozens of one-off prints over the season.
