Frequently asked questions

What Avery name tag sheets does this support?

The default preset is the exact Avery 5395 adhesive name badge layout: 8 badges per Letter sheet, 2⅓" × 3⅜" each. The presets also include exact Avery 5390 badge inserts (2¼" × 3½", 8-up), Avery 5392 / 5384 large inserts (3" × 4", 6-up), plus the Avery 5163 / 5160-compatible name-label sizes.

What's the standard name tag size?

The most common size is 3" × 2" (event / conference standard) or 3⅜" × 2⅓" (Avery 5395). For lanyard-style ID badges, 4" × 3" is standard. Wider tags read better from across a room. Go bigger if your event involves networking or speakers approaching from a distance.

Can I print 'Hello My Name Is' across the top?

Currently the tool prints one centered name per tag. To add a header strip, do two passes: first print the "HELLO MY NAME IS" line on the top half (use a 1-column × 10-row layout, tile mode, with that text), then re-feed the same sheet and print the names on the bottom half. Or, print on pre-printed Hello-My-Name-Is sticker sheets, which already have the header.

What font is best for readability across a room?

Sans-serif at the largest size that fits the longest name. The Sans font in Bold weight is the most legible from 6+ feet away. Avoid script fonts for events. They look elegant but can't be read across a table. Increase the size slider to 60+ for maximum impact, and let auto-fit shrink the longer names.

Can I add a logo or company icon?

Yes. Use Image+Text mode to pair uploaded logos or icons with one name per line. The Avery name-tag presets keep the physical badge sheet locked while the logo and text placement stays editable.

Do I need to laminate name tags?

Only for repeated use. Single-event tags don't need it. For classroom desk tags or weekly meetings where the same tag is reused, laminate or use rigid badge holders. Pin-back holders and magnetic clips both extend tag life by keeping the printed surface enclosed.

Can I make classroom name tags?

Yes. Type one student name per line or import a roster as text. Use a larger font, bold weight, and a simple rounded shape so names are readable from a few feet away.

Can I put a photo or icon on each name tag?

Yes. Use Image+Text mode to pair uploaded photos or built-in icons with typed names in order. This works well for kids, pets, team members, or event badges.

What size is best for readable name tags?

A 2-column by 5-row layout on Letter paper gives large name tags that are easy to read. For smaller event labels, 3 columns by 5 rows saves paper while keeping names legible.

Can I make blank name tags for handwriting?

Yes. Leave the text area empty, turn on cell borders or cut guides, and print blank shapes. You can also add a repeated logo or event title and leave the name area blank.
