Which Avery numbers are the same size?
Avery sells the same physical layout under several numbers. The difference is usually box quantity, color, or whether the stock is tuned for laser or inkjet printers, not the label dimensions:
- 30-up address (1 x 2 5/8 in): 5160, 5260, 5660, 5960, 8160, 8460, 18160 and most store-brand 30-up address sheets.
- 20-up address (1 x 4 in): 5161, 5261, 5961, 8161, 8461, 18161.
- 14-up address (1 1/3 x 4 in): 5162, 5262, 8162, 8462, 15162, 18162.
- 10-up shipping (2 x 4 in): 5163, 5263, 5663, 5963, 8163, 18163.
- 6-up shipping (3 1/3 x 4 in): 5164, 5264, 8164, 8464, 6464.
- Full sheet (8 1/2 x 11 in): 5165, 5265, 8165, 8465, 18665.
- 80-up return address (1/2 x 1 3/4 in): 5167, 5267, 5667, 8167, 18167.
- 60-up return address (2/3 x 1 3/4 in): 5195, 5295, 8195.
- 30-up file folder (2/3 x 3 7/16 in): 5366, 5266, 5666, 5966, 8366.
If a sheet has the same labels-per-sheet count, column and row layout, and label dimensions on US Letter, the layout should line up. Printer feed tolerances can still cause small shifts, so run a test print first.
Pick a format and lay it out now: Avery 5160, 5161, 5162, 5163, 5164, 5165, 5167, 5168, 5195, 5366, 22807, 94104, or 5395.
Laser vs inkjet template numbers
For many Avery families, the lower number is the laser product and a sibling number is the inkjet version, but the layout is identical:
| Layout | Laser | Inkjet |
|---|---|---|
| 30-up address, 1 x 2 5/8 in | 5160 | 8160 / 8460 |
| 20-up address, 1 x 4 in | 5161 | 8161 |
| 14-up address, 1 1/3 x 4 in | 5162 | 8162 |
| 10-up shipping, 2 x 4 in | 5163 | 8163 |
| 6-up shipping, 3 1/3 x 4 in | 5164 | 8164 |
| Full sheet, 8 1/2 x 11 in | 5165 | 8165 |
| 80-up return address, 1/2 x 1 3/4 in | 5167 | 8167 |
| 60-up return address, 2/3 x 1 3/4 in | 5195 | 8195 |
| 30-up file folder, 2/3 x 3 7/16 in | 5366 | 8366 |
The number does not change how you lay out the sheet. It tells you which coating to buy for your printer: use inkjet stock in an inkjet printer and laser stock in a laser printer to avoid smearing or flaking.
How to print these at the right size
- Open the matching template. Starting from the Avery 5160, 5163, or 5167 page presets the grid for you.
- Add your text or import a CSV. Address sheets accept a clean name, street, city, state, ZIP column structure.
- Preview the whole sheet. Confirm long lines fit each label before printing.
- Print at 100% scale on US Letter. Turn off "fit to page," headers, and footers, which are the usual cause of misalignment.
- Run a plain-paper test. Hold the printed test behind the real label sheet against a light and check every corner before using label stock.
